Time is flying and the kids continue to grow and change so quickly I feel like I can’t keep up. The other day I jotted down as much as I could think of off the top of my head about what they are doing right now at 13.5 months. So here are my super rough notes so I don’t forget them at this unique age. Not quite toddlers but not really babies anymore! I’ll dump an absolutely obscene amount of pictures at the bottom as well – this is really for my own memories more than anything else!
Twins at 13.5 months
Standing unassisted but have yet to take their first true steps. Ben is more stable, will probably walk first
Love walking around and around while holding our hands. They also love walking around using the little walker toy we have, but they need help to steer it.
We just put locks on the cabinets because they love opening the cabinet doors and the drawers.
They’re obsessed with going in the bathroom, Ben likes to flush the toilet and chew on the contact solution bottle. They would get into the toilet if the lid was up.
When we say “go crazy!” they shake their heads around in the craziest way, it’s hilarious. They started doing it on their own, just being silly, and I would say “You guys are crazy!” and so now they do it when I ask them to.
After their naps they often stand up and play with each other, or steal each other’s bears. It’s not uncommon for me to hear them laughing and squealing in there with each other. So cute.
They’ve been falling a lot when they’re practicing standing, Ben bruised his forehead.
N has 3 teeth B has 7 teeth
They’ve had runny noses for like a month.
Nora climbed the stairs in Rochester.
We rarely spoon feed because they grab it, want to feed themselves and it turns into a spoon relay. Plus it’s messy.
Nora finally will tip back a sippy cup. Ben still wants us to hold it for him.
Nora always holds things out for me to give them kisses.
Ben gives the cheesiest grin, it’s the best.
Ben is obsessed with cords, sucking on the ends of them. He destroyed my phone charger.
Nora is obsessed with animals. Loved the zoo, loved the museum, loves dogs on the sidewalk, loved the horses on 59th street.
N points at everything out and about.
N loves lights and lamps, always noticing and pointing to them wherever we go.
Ben always grabs Nora’s buttons or decorations on her shirts
N hates it when B grabs her shirts or uses her to help him stand up.
N loves playing with a bowl, wooden spoon and a little water. She loves to stir!
We have this clear plastic ball thing that separates into two halves and lately they think it’s hilarious to put them on their face and squish their face into it. I think it’s hilarious too!
They both like to try to dig their little fingernails into my eyes and nose while they’re nursing. I HATE IT.
They nurse three times a day: morning, before their second nap, and before bed.
They take two naps: one at 10 and one at 2. The naps have been nice and long. 1.5-2 hours. HALLELUJAH CAN I GET AN AMEN?!
They sleep 10.5 to 11 hours at night. Bedtime is usually around 8 and they wake around 7.
Ben’s favorite books are the Elephant and Piggie series, Nora really likes anything with lots of pictures, like the Noah’s Ark book or this scripture hero alphabet book we have, which has lots of hidden things to find in the pictures, and she loves pointing out the hidden animals and things.
they still mostly like taking things apart they started putting something together like straw back in cup
They loooooove playing in the dishwasher and the fridge.
Their favorite foods are probably grapes and pancakes. They’ll almost always eat them.
They like to watch Baby Einstein, Puppy videos on youtube and Puffin rock on netflix.
Yoga tunnels – when I do yoga after my runs, they like to crawl under me in the little bridges and tunnels I make while doing the poses. Makes doing yoga interesting! ;)
Nora likes to snuggle. She wants to be picked up and then once you’re holding her she pumps her legs like she’s jumping and waves her arms around like she’s so excited. It’s adorable.
For some reason when they wake up and I pick them up, they’re always really interested in pointing to the picture of our family on their wall. They’re always fixated on it after their naps. So funny.
Milk – I don’t want to because of cleanup but they like it
They like eggs with ketchup. Sometimes they won’t eat eggs and as soon as there’s ketchup involved they’ll eat a ton.
Ben is more shy, but funny when he warms up.
Nora is a social butterfly.
Every diaper change is a battle. Almost every one.
Ben blows bubbles with his mouth when he’s sad. It’s hilarious. ????
Nora babbles when she’s sad like she’s talking about how sad her life is, or puts her hand on her mouth then jerks it away while yelling. She also throws fits, puts her forehead on the floor. She’s going to throw some serious tantrums as she ages, I can just tell.
Nora drains the tub, she thinks it’s so fun to flip the lever. So we just refill the tub over and over.
Nora’s gone through a phase where she almost always poops in the tub at the end of bath time after the water is drained. It’s kind of hilarious because she is soooo consistent.
They love the wind up animals, chasing them across the floor or just holding them and watching the wheels spin. Klane taught Nora how to drive it, so cute.
Sometimes they mimic each other, shaking their heads or banging the table
They’re kind of done with their jumpers. The end of an era!
They make friends on subway, smiling or waving at people. They always hold the subway pole if it’s in reach.
Church is getting harder. They don’t sit quietly through class anymore. It’s going to be a long stretch until nursery! They’ll be old enough for nursery end of September. We might have to start taking them in there and sitting with them, though.
They love their bears, take them around with them.
Nora has been stealing Ben’s bear through the crib bars. She’s so naughty, she takes it and then waves it around just out of his reach, taunting him. Oh dear.
They love when dad comes home, they get so excited.
Nora tickles dad’s belly button and thinks it’s hilarious, she shrieks and laughs and they play this little game where she tickles him, he laughs, then she laughs.
Ben stands up in the middle of the floor but has yet to take steps
B has the best giggle and mischievous smile with eyebrow raise
B always does a peacock noise when he hears the word peacock
B gets overwhelmed with loud noises sometimes (he was afraid at the museum of natural history at first because of all the kids yelling)
B giggles when you tell him “no”, we try to get him in trouble and he just laughs at us
B freezes when he’s caught doing something naughty, then speed crawls away – hilarious
B has the best soft hair, still doesn’t grow on the top-front of his head
N has longer wispy hair on top that’s getting thicker, cutest little tuft on back
