Ben and Nora’s official “one year photos” turned into their 13 month photos because life and the weather didn’t cooperate with our plans for a shoot. But we captured them at this age and stage and that’s what matters! I have to laugh when I look at these photos because they’re just so “them” at this age. On the verge of walking, but not quite yet, constantly trying to crawl away and find treasures in the grass (to put in their mouths), Ben squinting into the sky, distracted by every plane flying by, both of them clutching their bears ever tighter as nap time approaches. One year old is a fun stage. Still babies but right on the brink of toddlerhood. I am so glad we took the time to capture them right now.
Alexa is an amazing friend, and also an amazing photographer, which works out great for me! Before I had kids I imagined I would use my camera a lot to take great photos of my children as they grow. I’ve been disappointed in myself for falling short of that goal, as the reality of parenthood, for me at least, is that I feel too busy to pause, pull out a nice camera (that the kids will then want to grab and destroy, which means that pulling it out has the potential to cause tantrums), and compose a nice shot. I don’t feel like I have time to put together blog posts or go through the pictures I snap on my phone, so adding the real camera into the equation just feels overwhelming to me. All this to say, I am really grateful for the times I’ve spent with Alexa that she has pulled out her camera and snapped such great pictures of my babies and me. Those images are priceless, especially since I feel like I can’t do that for myself at this point. She has taken some of the best-quality pictures of the kids during their first year! I am eternally indebted to this wonderful friend.
