Picnic with Alexa

by angie.

The weather was gloriously warm this week. We met Alexa for a sunny picnic in short sleeves in the park around 72nd street. So nice to enjoy the sunshine and chat with a good friend. Nora ate dirt for the first time, which made us laugh. Alexa took pictures which I will always treasure. It’s rare that I get pictures of myself with my babies. What a gift to have us captured like this, just weeks before they turn one year old.

After the picnic I walked all the way up to 110th street with the babies, stopping at a swingset along the way. It was so warm I took their shoes off!

I was expecting the kids to fall asleep on the walk home since it was their usual nap time, then of course it didn’t happen, so they took a late nap that day. And all was well! I am still learning that they are humans, not robots, and flexible nap schedules are okay. All the books I’ve read have given me this mindset that my kids will self destruct if they don’t get regular naps. But they do okay with changing it up when the need arises, and it’s good for me to see that everything turns out just fine.
