16 weeks! That’s almost four months! WHAT! Crazy town. The babies keep getting more awesome all the time, which is great. Harder in some ways and better in others.
Nora got really good at grabbing toys this week. Put a toy near her and she is entertained for a few minutes grabbing it, sucking on it, feeling it in her hands, etc. Her favorite seems to be this little fabric book that is shaped like an owl. It has crinkly fabric inside the pages so it makes noise when handled. My favorite was during church when I dropped it into her carseat through the hole in the cover. I couldn’t see her but within a few seconds I could hear the crinkling noise and I knew she had gotten a hold of it! Proud mom moment. Haha.
Ben started rolling over in his sleep this week! We have started swaddling them with one arm out and have also tried the magic sleep suit for a few days. Trying to figure out the best sleep solution for him right now. In the suit he is forced to sleep on his back, and he does fine, but I don’t want him to get dependent on it, plus it’s pretty hot in that thing. When he’s swaddled, he almost always ends up on his belly. Sometimes this works out fine, sometimes he wakes up and is unhappy that he’s face down and can’t flip back over. I of course am paranoid that he’s going to accidentally suffocate himself on the mattress, which is very unlikely but distressing nonetheless. I need a video monitor.
They are both getting so much more vocal this week. They just smile and talk and talk and talk. Especially Nora. She does this low growly thing sometimes which is hilarious.
They are both loving each other this week – this was the first week that they really really got interested in each other. They lay on the floor facing each other (without us placing them there) and coo and stare and grab at each other for several minutes at a time. I die every time, I love it so much.
Nora started having a harder time going down for sleep this week. She has cried a lot more and seemed more sad when we put her down. She used to cry for like 30 seconds and then settle, but now she seems to get mad. I think she has a stubborn streak like her mom. (Yikes!) Usually with a little more rocking and swaying she will get sleepy enough, then we lay her in the crib and keep a hand on her for a few seconds until we’re sure she’s calm. She won’t take a paci so it’s a little more difficult to get her to sleep if she’s not into it.
Ben on the other hand is going to sleep like a champ. He gets fussy when he’s ready to go down, and he seems grateful when you get his swaddle on and his paci in, he usually calms right down and goes to sleep.
We took them to all 3 hours of church for the first time in like a month. They were both pretty exhausted by the whole experience, getting sleep in 20-45 minute stretches off and on, and when we got them home and put them down for naps, they slept forever. Nora took a 3 hour 45 minute nap and Ben took a 2 hour 35 minute nap. Especially lately, this is very unusual for them. Klane and I took naps too and loved it!
