This week

This week….

I hung out with Abbie and kids at Union Square on Monday. We chatted at the playground, had falafel sandwiches for lunch, and went to Strand. It was so fun to catch up. Abbie is one of those friends who you don’t have to see often to maintain a great friendship with. We always pick right back up where we left off, even if it’s been months. And with both of our busy schedules, that’s just the type of friends we need to be!

I found my favorite way to get to work from our new place, and I pop out of the subway right at Lincoln Square. I get a walk through the park, I don’t have to walk through East Harlem, and I get to see the temple. It takes 25 minutes longer, but whatever. If I’m not running late, it’s perfect.

Klane and I went to a Yankees game on Wednesday night. Can’t say no to free baseball tickets. It was really fun! We split a hot dog and a cheesesteak, Klane explained the finer points of baseball to me, and we sang “take me out to the ball game” at the 7th inning stretch before heading home early. I love baseball.

I have been running more regularly and my shin splints are flaring up big time. I guess it’s time to buy new running shoes. Although I’m hearing a lot about barefoot running shoes and I’m curious if maybe that could solve all my running injury problems. You hear about these people who have relied on orthodics and ultra-supportive shoes their whole lives and then they convert to barefoot and are now running completely injury-free with no support. Could it really be true?

I am going to Chicago this weekend for the American Association of Orthodontists convention with my office. Klane is out with his coworkers tonight for a post-softball-game drink (they drink beer, he drinks soda – but did I really have to clarify that?), and I should be using this time to pack for my trip. But I am having a wardrobe meltdown and I have no idea what to wear at the convention or to my staff dinner on Saturday, so I am here blogging instead. I am realizing what a casual dresser I am now that I have to come up with three days worth of business casual attire. I got NOTHING! Ahhhh….. heaven help me. But I am excited to see Chicago for the first time, and to see my parents there. And to eat deep dish pizza.

It was so much fun to play with you! I totally agree, we always pick up right where we left off and it’s so fun. I think the fact that we’re both super bloggers helps. We can know what’s up and get down to the good stuff:)

Have so much fun in Chicago. I’ve never been. You’ll have to tell me all about it. And I’m sure you’ll look super cute in whatever you decide to wear. You always look cute.

I LOVE Chicago!! I guess I don’t have New York to compare it to, but I think you’ll love it, too :) The pizza itself could probably be worth the entire trip. As far as what to wear– any of your darling clothes! That’s easy. Hahaha my brother in law is participating in a study at BYU for the alien shoes, although he’s in the control group where they don’t actually do any hardcore running in them, so I can’t really tell you how well he’s doing with them ;) Sorry you have shin splints though! I had those soooo bad in high school when I ran track, but I actually haven’t had them since, which has been nice because they are extremely painful and make running so unenjoyable. I was always icing them and it wasn’t a fun time..I hope yours start feeling better soon!

Oh Angie! Lets just shop and buy something to wear at the convention. I think that sounds like a plan! Deep dish here we come! You are a doll!

Funny you should mention barefoot running because I’ve recently become interested in it. You should listen to this episode of one of my favorite radio programs, Radio West, where the host talks to the author of the book Born to Run, which started the barefoot running craze. Here’s the link: http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kuer/news.newsmain/article/184/0/1797359/RadioWest.(M-F..11AM..and..7PM)/5311.Barefoot.Running. I just checked the book out from the library, and I’ve gone running a few times completely barefoot and it felt great! When you run barefoot your technique changes – instead of striking on the heavily padded heel of your running shoe, your weight shifts to the front of your foot. I’ve always had pain somewhere or another when running, so I figured I might as well try this method and I’m feeling good about it so far.

I know what you mean about business casual attire. I’m supposed to dress up every day and it gets to so boring and stiff feeling! I think first grade teachers should be allowed to wear comfortable clothes. Anyway, my brother-in-law has those barefoot running shoes and I know he enjoys them a lot. He wore them for some relay thing and said his feet felt great afterward, but he wears normal running shoes a lot of the time too so I’m not sure how great they really are. I guess my two cents isn’t really all that helpful after all. :)

I am the worst ever at keeping up with blogs. It’s been a really long time since I last visited yours and I’ve really missed reading. I’m still dying to see what your new apartment looks like. From the little glimpses that you’ve shared so far, it looks fabulous. I want to see more!

I’m glad to hear that you’re doing well and I hope that you had a fun weekend in Chicago!
