Sara visits + my new calling

by angie.

Sara came to town! She took time out of her busy schedule touring exciting design studios, etc to spend the day with us on Saturday. We lucked out with a beautiful, sunny, 60 degree day, sandwiched between freezing 25 degree temps on Friday and buckets of pouring rain today. It was the perfect day to meet for brunch and then wander the streets. So we did just that.

Brunch at Jane didn’t disappoint. Afterward we walked through SoHo in the sunshine. It was so nice out that we just kept walking and talking, stopping into stores along the way, and we didn’t stop until we made it to Madison Square Park at 23rd street. Later we watched the BYU game (which was a large improvement from Wednesday’s) and hung out at the apartment.

It was so great to see Sara and catch up. I love you Sara!

Mmmmm, vanilla french toast

He needs to cut his hair. Don’t tell him I said that. He hears it from me allllll the time.

The eggs benedict was in fact, divine

We found the sewing machines.

Today Klane had to work (first time he’s ever had to work on Sunday – he has been super busy lately). I pulled on my rain boots and stowed my sunday shoes and scriptures in my bag to head to church in the buckets of rain pouring outside. I made it to church early for the first time in a very long time. It was nice to sit in the quiet, empty chapel and think as people slowly filed in.

In sacrament meeting I was sustained in my new calling at church as the (drumroll please…) 2nd counselor in the Primary presidency! I am so excited about this calling. Having spent the last couple weeks substitute teaching in Primary, I’ve already been initiated into how much fun it is hanging out with the kids for the last two hours of church. There’s never a dull moment, you never know what the kids are going to say or do next, and I feel the Spirit so strongly as I listen to the kids’ sweet testimonies and sing the songs about Jesus. It will be so fun!

I already have a piece of original artwork on my fridge from one of the cute primary kids. She came up to me at the end of class last week and said, “I drew a picture for you, Sister Harding! Do you like it?” If that doesn’t melt your heart I don’t know what does.

After church was a linger longer, and then I ran two blocks in my sunday best and rain boots to catch the bus home, eat cookies and watch movies. It’s been a good weekend.

Your posts always leave me hungry (and aching for NYC)! Congrats on the new calling! That will be such a fun new challenge and will probably either make you baby hungry or serve as awesome birth control :)

Yay for new calling! You are perfect for that calling. I LOVE primary, especially in Harlem. Ruby was in my primary class when I taught CTR 4. She’s a hoot! Can’t wait to hear all the funny things you’ll pick up in primary. (Like the time they asked how long it took to build the Salt Lake Temple and Ruby proudly announced, “525,600 minutes!”)

Congrats on your new calling! You’ll really enjoy working with the kids! They’re never going to be able to get my out of Nursery.

And I’m so happy you posted about Jane. I’ve been trying to get there for the longest time, and this was the push I needed!

Primary is such a fun place. You’re right there is never a dull moment and those kids just love you to death (even if you can’t speak their language). Being 1st counselor in a French ward and I don’t know all the primary songs in French or understand a lot of what the little kids mumble, but I feel the spirit so strongly and know that it is such a privilege to teach these little ones. Have so much fun with it!

Hoorah for Primary! I love it and think that the spirit is always so strong with the little ones. Yesterday we spent the day with all the Graf’s for Kim and Shaun’s blessing of baby Macie. So fun to see all the little Graf cousins.
There was the cutest little 2 1/2 year old boy sitting in sacrament meeting and when it ended he started to wail…….”I don’t want to go to Cwass, My cwass is stupid.” Brandon and I were getting a kick out of watching the mom’s try and handle their kids. Of course all the Graf cousins were angelic and reverent. Brandon wondered what he was like as a little boy.

I love that the artist referred to you as “Ms. Harding.” Sounds like a perfect teacher name! And now we know who has been keeping you from getting to church early before this Sunday; Klane must be more high maintenance than I thought. Must be all that hair.

Wow I feel so honored my picture is on your fridge!! :) Don’t you just love getting those cute pictures and notes?! I usually get at least 4 a day teaching first grade. I tried saving them for about the first two weeks of school, then I realized there were just too many and my house would be overtaken. I’m so excited for you! You will do great!

Yeah Primary. Of course I love it! You will be wonderful. The new handbook has simplified some things so that will be great for you. Here’s a link that is helpful. It’s Frequently Asked Questions from Primary on lds.org. I refer to it often, and it gets updated fairly frequently. http://classic.lds.org/pa/display/0,17884,7701-1,00.html

it was soooooooooo good to hang out with you guys! thank you for wandering aimlessly with me, i love that we can talk about anything and not miss a beat. so i interviewed at martha today and hopefully will find out in the next few weeks… all i can think about is how much of an upgrade nyc neighbors instead of wymount neighbors would be :)

Angie – you will be so great in the primary presidency.

PS – you should add some of these fabulous restaurants you’re finding to the nyceatsandtreats blog – because I always love your suggestions!

Primary is wonderful. Every time I read 3rd Nephi I reflect that if Jesus were to come again on a Sunday, he would surely come to Primary. I love that thought – it puts primary into perspective. You’ll be great, I’m happy for you.
