Bagels, BYU & Brunch

by angie.

Let’s hear it for the weekend! Hip hip hooray!

After our magical trip to Absolute Bagels on Presidents Day I could not stop thinking about bagels all week long. So on Saturday morning we went back for more. I decided we should be healthy and run there and back (it’s about a mile each way), hopefully canceling out some of the extra bagel calories with the run. We decided to boost our calorie burn by running up the stairs at Morningside Park on the way there – I think it’s about 10-12 sets of stairs. Well, Klane and I are both a liiiiittle out of shape, and we overestimated our abilities and were both DYING when we got to the top. I felt like my heart was trying to crawl out through my throat.

So then we get to the bagel shop and I save us a seat while Klane goes to order us a bagel to split, and he orders an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. For those who don’t know, lox is smoked salmon – it’s basically raw fish. It kind of tasted like a sushi bagel. I will admit, it was a little difficult to eat in the middle of a run. On the run home we talked about times when we’ve thrown up from running too hard… it seemed appropriate. We probably won’t be doing another “bagel run” anytime soon.

We were so psyched for the BYU vs. SDSU rematch on Saturday. I fixed BBQ pork sandwiches and homemade mac and cheese and we had the Galbraiths and Laidlaws over to watch the game. It was so much fun! It’s always more fun to watch with other fans who are as excited about the game (or more so, cough cough, Johnny) as we are. We screamed and cheered and the cougars pulled out a sweet victory that made us all part ways with big goofy grins on our faces. We were so happy!

The suspense is killing them:

Look at the awesome shirts Johnny made! I want one!

This morning I met up with my blogging buddy Morgan for brunch at Clinton Street Baking Co. It was good to see her again and catch up, and my raspberry chocolate chip pancakes were to die for. I know I was a little underwhelmed with Clinton Street the first time we went, but I stand corrected. That place is AMAZING. And going on a Monday morning when the wait was only 30 minutes didn’t hurt either.

I didn’t think I could finish the whole stack…

But then I did.

In other news, I got a new calling at church on Sunday! I am so excited! Anyone want to guess what it is….? I will tell you after I’m officially sustained next Sunday. Is the suspense killing you?

Ang! I haven’t commented on your blog for so long but when I read this post…how could I not! That game was pretty amazing!! It’s fun to know you were watching it too all the way over there on the other side of the country! Sounds like a great weekend to me. Oh and I saw your mom the other night…she’s so great you know. Our visit was short but so good to talk to her. She sure misses you, we all do! Have a good week!

  5. Wasn’t that game amazing? Go Cougs! Matt and I were so tempted to drive down to San Diego and scalp some tickets but we had to speak in church at 9 a.m. on Sunday so it was a no-go. And speaking of church, I got a new calling on Sunday too! It’s my third (at one time) haha. We have a really small ward :-) I can’t wait to hear what you’ll be doing! Whatever it is, you’ll be amazing.

So a sushi bagel in the middle of a run sounds absolutely terrible. I don’t blame you for not wanting to do that again anytime soon. The bagels sound divine though…

Love the Jimmer shirts. Shane and I just found out who he is a couple of weeks ago. I know, we should be stoned.

The suspense is really killing me about this calling! RS PRES!!

  11. Joanna Galbraith says:

Weekends are the best. You guys are the best. BYU basketball is the best. The combination of all three equals fun times. We just love hanging out with you guys!

  12. Sydna Graf says:

I’m guessing (and hoping) that you’re in YW! You’ll be great at whatever you’re asked to do.

  13. Morgan says:

I’m sorry to hear that the “bagel run” didn’t work out too well. It really sounded like such a brilliant idea. Maybe you should try it one more time, minus the lox.

I’m so sorry! I completely ruined that picture. Makes me glad that I took a picture of you alone.

I’m glad that you’re so excited about your new calling! I really think that you will be perfect for it.
