St Thomas: The End

by angie.

Friday we slept in and then decided to cancel our plans to go back to St. John because everyone was tired and/or sunburned. I sort of totally regret not going back. What were we thinking?! We’re a 15 minute boat ride away from one of the most beautiful spots in the world and we’re too tired to go? What is wrong with us? Oh well. I guess now we have a reason to visit again. :)

So Friday… we attempted to go to a snorkeling spot called Coki beach, but when we got there it was pretty crowded and islanders were preying on sunbathers trying to sell souvenirs and junk, so we decided to go somewhere else. We ended up back at the hotel watching the World Cup. I am addicted to sun and therefore went to the pool to lay out and read for a bit.

And later that night we got gigantic 3/4 pound hamburgers at Shipwreck Tavern in town. Afterward we were playing cards and the hotel power went out, so we broke out the emergency glow sticks and continued betting Milky Ways and Starbursts. It was awesome.

Sadly, everyone had to fly out first thing Saturday morning. After dropping them off at the airport, Klane and I soaked up a little more sun at the hotel beach and swam in the Caribbean water one last time.

We decided to stop by the shops in Charlotte Amalie to look for souvenirs. Shopping is popular in St. Thomas because everything is tax free. We weren’t looking for diamonds or anything, but we did come away with a polarizing filter for our lens that was a great deal! We were dying to try it out at a beach before our flight, so we stopped by Brewers (right by the airport) to take a few quick shots of the water (seen on this post). At the beach were these adorable two-week-old puppies, and their owners let us snap a picture.

WOW! What a fun trip! We’re so grateful for our family and for any time we get to spend with them. We always have a blast together, no matter where we are. The fact that we got to hang out on this island for a week was just icing on the cake! We are already thinking about where the next family trip should be.

What CUTE puppies! What a cool trip! You are such a jet-setting couple! That fatigue-factor just happens when you travel, even though it’s so easy to look back later and have regrets. When I was in NYC last time (when we got together), I didn’t end up using my free tickets to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon our first day because I was so exhausted from the red-eye and our schedule was SO manic. WHAT was I thinking??? (Clearly I wasn’t– I love Jimmy Fallon.) It happens.

Can’t wait to hear about your NEXT trip!

That was another great post even on a lazy day! Hey vacations are for lazy days, cause you can’t do that at home, so enjoy it while you can. I know you jumped back into work with both feet so a little R&R should never make you feel guilty. What a wonderful time you had and we are so happy for you. Beautiful pictures by the way!

Hi, I am Kelli and I found your blog (cant remember which route i took to get to it) but I went to school with your brother Kyle and Klane(Klane and i were also in the same ward). I have to say that your blog is so fun to read. Your pictures capture the feeling and the experience so well, and you are amazing at writing. Just thought I would let you know. :)

Such a perfect trip! I’ve loved hearing all about it. I love that you all got a chance to really explore the island. My family’s the same way when we go on vacation. I know that some people’s idea of a vacation is doing absolutely nothing, just lying around at a resort all day, every day. That just doesn’t work for me. I think it’s so much more fun to get out and see and do as much as possible. It looks like you all had lots of fun exploring St. Thomas! Now you’ve got me dying to go! Someday, I’ll have to.
