NYC anniversary
by angie.
Yesterday was our NYC anniversary. One year ago was definitely the craziest time in our life together. We rolled into town at 6 am with 200 pounds of luggage and my board patient (a random lady from Provo who barely spoke English) in tow, bleary-eyed from the red-eye flight we’d caught right after graduation the day before. We were carrying a map with us everywhere and accidentally got on the 5 instead of the 6, almost missing my orientation meeting at NYU. The next day I took my board exam and we tried to see as many sights as possible with my patient. Two days later Klane started his internship and we moved into our apartment. It was CRAZY! We signed a one year lease, but had no idea if we’d get to stay longer than a few months.
I’m so glad we were able to stay! It’s amazing to look back at everything we’ve learned and all the ways we’ve grown, and the ways we’ve been so blessed in the last year. I am completely in love with NYC, with the energy of the city, the people here, and everything it’s taught me. We’re so happy to be where we are. New York, I love you. Happy Anniversary.
For our training run this weekend we mapped a route along the Hudson River Greenway. Would you believe that eight miles will take you from our place at 115th street, all the way down to the World Trade Center?! Somehow I just feel more accomplished being able to say I ran all the way down to the WTC than if I were to do a few laps in the park.

The Statue of Liberty is just to the right of Klane’s shoulder. It was good to see her and know how far we’d come!

The run felt great; we couldn’t believe it when we got to the end! We were pretty excited when we finished. See the WTC construction behind us.
Afterward, we got lunch from Chef White, a nice guy selling delicious barbecue on a street corner in our neighborhood. Klane’s wanted to try it for a few weeks now.

We took our food to a nice little picnic table at Morningside park. It was really good!

And I finally cut Klane’s hair! Check out his rockin new ‘do.

I think he looks pretty dang hot. Thanks to all your helpful advice and a phone call to my expert sister-in-law Michelle, I think it turned out pretty good.
Later we went to Stanton and Rubi‘s to celebrate Stanton’s birthday. Rubi made this amazing cake.

Happy Anniversary!!! That is so exciting! Great way to spend your anniversary. (Doesn’t it feel like NYC is kind of a person that you have a very personal relationship with? I feel that way all the time).
And I totally hear you on the running thing. I ran 6 miles from 170th to 59th. Saw so many cool things in so many different neighborhoods. It’s amazing!! I love this place!!!
PS I totally have an email drafted to you. I’ll send it tonight after the babes are in bed:)
Happy Anniversary! I honestly couldn’t remember how to spell anniversary so I cheated off of Abby so I wouldn’t have to scroll back up to the top…
Congrats on a long run. It looks like you have the runner’s high!
Happy anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been a year already. That means we’re rapidly approaching the time that it’s been a year since we LEFT NYC, which was as long as we were there, and that just breaks my heart to think about. I’m so glad you are loving and appreciating your time in the city and not taking it for granted!
Angie! I love that run so much. I really fell in love with NYC when I started training! We bought tickets to the rs. They are kinda sorta close to you guys. I am really excited! Glad you had a great weekend!
NYC anniversary!! I don’t even think we did anything on our one year………we must then for our two years.
yay for city living!
What a great weekend! You two know how to live it up and enjoy life to the fullest and I am glad you are doing it together. Congrats on the long run! Wow! It is amazing that if you just put one foot in front of the other you can carry yourself long distances. Imagen yourself running here in utah and how far you could go. Dad and i are enjoying running the canal and I think our record may be 4 miles. I guess that is ok for old folks like us.
Hooray for NY anniversaries! & congrats on your run. That’s awesome!
That cake looks so good!
So I forgot to comment on how proud I am of you in all that you have accomplished in this past year. I sat yesterday and thought about you and it made me smile. It has been a very big year of change and sometimes that is not fun, but you have really come out on top and you should be so excited about all that you and Klane have learned and experienced together.
Oh and by the way celebrate big this week!!! It deserves a BIG celebration! Pull out all the stops!
What a fun anniversary! I’m so happy ya’ll stayed and didn’t leave. This past year has been amazing!
And Saturday was such an beautiful day to run! Next race you do, I’m up for it! (…maybe)
WOW! CONGRATULATIONS ON SUCH AN AMAZING YEAR!! You guys have come such a long way and so has your blog! Your new blog is so, so cool. I love it.
I loved reading your “NYC arrival story”– wow. It totally reminds me of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” lyrics. Yet, after arriving and a few initial mishaps and missteps, you guys have taken the bull by the horns (think iconic Wall Street bull– energetic, confident, optimistic) and look at ALL you’ve accomplished! “You’ve come a long way, Baby!”
It was so fun meeting you in NYC– you are such a fun, interesting and incredible person! I loved our evening at Serendipity and then Bloomingdale’s. Good times!
P.S. I totally meant to tell you that I love Klane’s “rockin new ‘do” — it looks GREAT! You are a natural, Angie– way to go!
Great job on Klane’s hair, Ang! It looks so good! Crazy that it’s been a whole year since you two moved to NYC. Time flies!
i love that you guys came out here with your board patient.
haha
so glad we’re friends and thanks for coming out to stanton’s party!
Happy New York Anniversary!!! What a wonderful way to celebrate a wonderful year. If you’re anything like me, your second year will just be even better:)
I’m glad to see that you had such a fabulous weekend!
