Lately…
by angie.
This morning my house smells like Pine Sol. I love it. I’ve just finished some spring cleaning and the place feels so new and fresh. Later I’m going to look for hair clippers because Klane has finally given in and is letting me try my hand at cutting his hair. Exciting! And a little scary.
Life has been really really great lately. I am so happy. I love springtime, I love the city, I love my husband, I love my job, I love our apartment, I love our ward, life is just good. I have never enjoyed spring this much, maybe because in Utah you sort of skip directly from winter to summer. Springtime has been gorgeous here, and I’ve loved noticing the subtle changes every morning in the park with things blooming and growing each day.
Training for the half-marathon is going well; it’s so fun to have a goal to motivate us. It’s amazing to run seven miles and actually feel great! Six weeks ago, running that far would’ve killed us. It’s fun to see what you can do when you dedicate yourself to something. Klane has been running home from work, while I’ve been getting up early to run, and we’ve had fun doing our long runs on Saturdays together. We are getting really excited for our long weekend in Boston and the race at the end of May. Dayna’s inspiring post about the SLC Half last weekend gave me chills and got me so pumped!

I love being up when the sun is just coming up and it's so quiet out. This glassy water on the reservoir made me want to go waterskiing!
My friend Wade from high school came to visit last week and I met up with him on Monday to hang out. It was really fun, we walked down Fifth Ave and went to the Guggenheim, then shopped at H&M. Wade easily out-shopped me by about an hour, haha. I am not a big shopper and got tired quickly. But I did get a couple cute shirts, one for $9 and one for $5. Gotta love H&M. It was a fun outing and fun to catch up with an old friend.

Swans that Wade and I encountered at Harlem Meer. They are actually quite huge when you get up close!

On Saturday we hung out with friend Pat who is in the city looking for apartments. We’re so excited he and Lindsay will be moving back to the city soon. Pat, Klane and I went to Lombardi’s for pizza on Saturday night. That pizza is so so good. And I love the neighborhood. We walked over to SoHo for a little bit and I love it there too. We should get downtown more often, I love the narrow streets and cobblestone.

Sorry Pat for the un-flattering shot. I took this picture to show the girl in the background. She came in, ordered a pizza, then slowly and solemnly ate the entire thing by herself. She was skinny too! It was crazy. I kept watching her in amazement every time she picked up another piece. Sometimes I like to watch people and wonder what their story is… Maybe she recently had a bad break-up? Maybe she just has a crazy fast metabolism and regularly eats entire pizzas by herself?

I love this post! You have such a beautiful life. Those tulips! Do you think they would notice if you went out and snipped a few? ;) just kidding… I think you’ve officially inspired me to start running again! I will keep you posted on if that actually happens. (highly improbable, but if it does…)
a.) you two are my running inspirations. no kidding.
b.) hello springtime rejeuvenation! love your happiness- simply delightful, my friend!
c.) i have TOTALLY been that girl before…haha except @the Brick Oven post-Statistics test. Thanks for bring laughter to the LRC this very day with the pic/words. :)
awww.. you got some lovely images here :)
especially those city sky lines! :) beautiful! makes me wanna move to new york like right now!: ) lol :)
it’s so exciting to hear that your life is falling into place and eveything is where it should be! those moments in our lives are so precious! :)
and you are so my hero for training for that marathon! that is amazing! good luck! :)
I applaud that girl in the pizza shop. I went to a movie by myself for the first time last summer and it was so liberating. I felt silly that doing something alone was so foreign, but it’s made me want to just go plop myself in a restaurant I like, alone. The whole pizza, though? Dang.
hahha my story for that girl is that she is bulimic! I always assume the worst!
New York. Tulips. Spring time. Running. Hanging out with old friends. Helping friends find apartments. Date night with Klane at the pizza place. THAT AMAZING YUMMY PIZZA! The solo girls eating the whole pizza by herself. Ang!…I love your life!!!!!
I love spring!! It looks gorgeous there. I can’t believe that girl ate that whole pizza!! That is unreal!
I’m so glad you are in a happy place right now:). It almost takes a little bit of effort to stop trying to go-go-go, on to the next task, next hurdle, etc.. but to sit comfortably exactly where you are is worth it!
I am a stress eater bad. I could easily be the girl in the background; I’ll be physically sick before my stomach can tell my mouth to shut!
that poor girl. although, sometimes….you just got to have some pizza. Way to go her.
and I love lombardi’s…although I hate the wait.
I love reading your posts and seeing your pictures. Its like living in NY through you! Sorry I don’t comment more often. I love reading your comments to people. You are so thoughtful and sweet. Maybe I will be better. I have really enjoyed the spring pics. We are finally getting blossoms and flowers here. But there is snow in our forecast! uggghhh!!!
Loved this post and loved that I was a part of your cleaning routine. I can almost smell the pine sol. You are in such a great groove! Keep it up and enjoy! Can’t wait to give you a giant size hug in DC very soon! Talk to you soon:)
I agree…Utah skips from winter to summer! I went from hoodies to short in 3 days. I need to take a pic of my tulips though, they are so beautiful. I love whoever planted them. Flowers just make everything seem beautiful and perfect. I’m exctied Pat and Lindsay will be with you guys if they can’t be here. I feel like Shane and I should move there!! Is that wierd? I love adventures and living in a big city is such an adventure.
This post makes me so happy! I love knowing that you are so happy. I would say that maybe you’re feeling extra happy because it’s springtime and the weather’s been nice, but then I thought about it and remembered that you’re happy even when there’s a blizzard outside, even when the sky is gray and rain is pouring. I love that you’re so great at finding the beauty in life. I love that you’re happy.
How fun you got to hang out with your friend Wade! Visitors are always fun. I’ve never been to the Guggenheim, but I’ve heard lots of wonderful things about it and I’ve always wanted to go. I’m thinking that I just might have to squeeze in some time to go when I come next month.
That girl at Lombardi’s makes me laugh. She’s a lucky one. Had that been me, that pizza would have gone straight to my hips by the time that I stood up to leave. That’s just so crazy! I, too, wonder what her story is…
Wow… I have no words for the pizza girl. I can eat a lot but not a whole pizza by myself! That’s crazy! I love all your pictures! Someday I will go there! Oh… and we find out on Friday what baby #2 is. If it’s a girl, I will need your help with my nursey idea! I am thinking of a “big city, big dreams” kind of theme…
i think that girl probably came out to nyc with friends then ditched them bc they got in a fight so she went to lombardi’s on her own and was so sad that she ate her feelings away.
so glad life is good for you guys, we feel the same way right now and it’s just awesome to be so content. :)
I really like this post. A lot. We need to hang out! As soon as preschool is over I can get all my laundry done in the morning and we can play all afternoon.
So, I was totally tempted to run the half in Boston, but we have friends coming in that day. Do you want to run a half in CT with me in Oct? I know that’s far away, but I think it would be a lot of fun!
(this is totally turning into an email and has nothing to do with the post) And you should run a women only 10K with me in June – it’s in CP. I’ll email the info to you.
That’s all:)
I love that she ate the whole pizza, skinny or not. I could never eat that much pizza in one sitting. I also love that you are training for a 1/2 marathon. They are wonderful and satisfying, and it’s so fun to see NYC early in the morning.
